I object to terms that I have never read, and universal norms that I have not been educated about. I dislike when people make statements and assume that I understand what they mean. I've heard this phrase too many times, “You can’t have it all!” Let's talk about it. Who determines what you can or cannot have? Do not let others dictate your success or path in life. Positive suggestions are necessary and great, but standards must often be revisited. I’ve learned that most people who do not accomplish their goals do not believe in themselves and are stifled by fear. Do not have high hopes that people who do not believe in themselves will believe in you. I remember sharing my dreams with people who discouraged me by saying, “Wow! You are dreaming! You will not be able to accomplish all of that.” Those people also stared in disbelief when they witnessed my accomplishments.

I’ve dismissed several conversations by third parties who falsely predicted my future. I’ve heard third parties say, “You can’t have a family and be a travel nurse,” and “You can’t travel and see the world if your husband doesn’t like to travel.” Clearly, some people do not understand how home-schooling operates. Many people have also never met a faithful husband who enjoys his time at home while his wife travels. You must silence the opposition in order to move forward. You determine what you can have, and you set your limits. If you maintain balance in life, it is is okay to have it all.

Some people do not desire much in life because they cannot see beyond their limits. If you enjoy traveling, book a new getaway. There’s a lot to see in the world. Majority of the people who speak against you traveling have only traveled within 60 miles of their permanent address. If you enjoy learning, continue your education. Most people who speak against you furthering your education do not have a high school diploma. When I obtained my Master of Science in Nursing with specialization in Nursing Education degree, most people assumed that I have a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree. People were surprised to learn that I chose an accelerated path to bypass the bachelor’s degree to reach my goal. Again, people were surprised to learn that my master’s degree catapulted me to my Post-Master’s Family Nurse Practitioner Certificate as a Board-Certified Family Nurse Practitioner. Customize your path!

Forget the negativity that you heard and challenge yourself to accomplish a new goal. Surprise yourself! Having it all does not mean that you are rich; it means that you have reached your goals. Having it all does not mean that you are not grateful and have forgotten your roots. Stop people from reminding you of where you came from. Never forget the people who helped you reach your goals. On the other hand, never drain yourself by giving all that you have to others as if you owe them an annuity of gratitude. Jealousy will cause others to make things difficult for you. Surround yourself with people who are happy to see you win and make life easy for you. Do not feel guilty because you want something that others do not want. Assess yourself, determine what you want to accomplish, then go for it!

Say "Yes" to yourself, and take your time being successful. It takes time to be successful. Celebrate each victory and step toward reaching your goals. Forget about the crowd that booed you; the booing caused you to sharpen your skills and prepare for your comeback. Having it all doesn't mean that you have never failed. I was recharged when I heard Tyler Perry's testimony at a Women's Empowerment event in Raleigh, NC. He said, "As long as you have one yes from the Lord, go for it!" Look at what he has accomplished! He has continued to astonish others. You can have it all if you discipline yourself and remain focused on accomplishing your goals. If God said that you can have it, go get it!

You deserve the best, and it is okay to have it all!
